Bird of prey to pass brass baton in Oakham

A BIRD of prey will swoop onto a stage on Sunday as part of a national Olympic event.

Foresters Brass 2000 is performing in the grounds of Oakham Castle from 8pm on Sunday as part of the Oakham Festival programme and as part of the concert, they are taking part in the “Brass the Baton” project where a special conductor’s baton making is passed around the country from concert to concert.

The band has arranged for a bird of prey from Rutland Falconry Centre in Exton to swoop onto the stage during the concert, grasp the baton in its talons, and then fly off over the audience.

Musical Director Peter Collins said: “To be honest I’m rather nervous. However experts from the Rutland Falconry Centre will be on stage to look after me.

“We’re really delighted to be involved in this project – it’ll be part of what promises to be a fantastic evening of live music.”

Tickets are £8 from www.oakhamfestival.co.uk
