A Bourne couple have put their family first after winning £1million plus a private island getaway in the amazing EuroMillions Mega Friday draw.

With the win Rachel and Rob Bingham are treating their two daughters plus Rachel’s parents to gifts and holidays but haven’t a clue yet what to buy for themselves. Fortunately, the pair can relax before making any decisions having won on a EuroMillions Mega Friday last week. This means that as well as £1m they are one of ten players who have also won an amazing trip to a private island in South East Asia.

The couple were presented with their big cheque at Belton Woods, Hotel near Grantham yesterday (Thursday).

Rachel, 46, a medical secretary at Stamford Hospital, said: “I went into Bourne after picking up my youngest daughter Louise from a sleepover. I don’t normally go into town and to be honest was in a bit of a daydream. I had forgotten my mobile and hadn’t even brushed my hair properly when I walked past McColls Newsagents in West Street and thought I’d check my Lottery tickets. I probably only go into the place once or twice a year but the very nice lady took my ticket, checked it and said I’d won an amount but they couldn’t pay that much out of the till. I gasped and my legs went to jelly. The lady told me to go to the Post Office just up the road and they’d be able to help.”

Rachel continued: “There were only three people in the Post Office and one checked my ticket. Then all three checked and then looked at me. The lady said ‘I think you’ve gone and won the top prize.’ I started to wobble a bit and they got me a chair and a glass of water. They told me to sign the back of the ticket, go home and call The National Lottery Hotline. I didn’t have my glasses and couldn’t see where to sign so one of them put their fingers where I needed to sign and I scribbled away.

“I said I needed to phone my husband Rob but because I didn’t have my mobile didn’t know his work number. They said I could use their phone but then we couldn’t find the number for Rob’s work at Towngate Tyres in Market Deeping. Looking back it was all a bit daft.”

Rachel got hold of Rob and asked him to come home immediately as she had some amazing news. Rachel nearly didn’t get home as shouldn’t remember where she had parked her car due to all the commotion. She found the car and met Rob around 40 minutes later at home and together they called The National Lottery Hotline to stake their claim.

Rob, 46, works at Towngate Tyres in Market Deeping and together with Rachel play Lotto and EuroMillions every week having won small amounts a few times. Rachel has two daughters from her previous marriage, Emily, 23, and Louise, 18. Emily is getting married next year and Rachel and Rob have paid for her wedding dress plus have offered to pay for renovation work required on the happy couple’s new home. Louise has had a Fiat 500 car and Rachel’s parents have also been treated to a holiday.

As for Rachel and Rob, they haven’t yet worked out what to do with the rest of the money but are looking forward to spending time with the family relaxing (and hopefully working out what to do with the win) on the holiday of a lifetime; a trip to the private island of Song Saa in South East Asia.

Every week EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker guarantees to create two millionaires – one on Tuesday and one on Friday – but with the EuroMillions Mega Friday draw on Friday last week (August 28), 10 players won a guaranteed £1m prize plus a private island getaway.
