A GARDENER has seen his giant sunflower grow so high it now “dwarfs” him.
Retiree David Smith, 72, of Stephenson Way, Bourne watched in amazement this summer as his flower, which he raised from seeds, grew to be 12ft 7in tall.
David said: “The seeds are called Giant Moroccans but I never expected it to get to the height it has and this year this one just went bananas.”
In 2010 David was featured in the newspaper with a 10ft 5in tall sunflower which he thought would be the tallest he would ever grow.
He said there is no secret to his giant sunflower growing, he just waters them every other day and supports them with canes to protect them against the wind.
David said the sunflowers have attracted the attention of curious passers by, pointing out his flowers.
