MAKING shamrock-shaped biscuits and learning Irish dance were part of St Patrick’s Day celebrations at the Bright Sparks Pre-School at Empingham on Monday.

The nursery, which is based at Empingham Primary School, makes a point of celebrating all four of the national saints’ days, St Patrick for Ireland, St Andrew for Scotland, St George for England and St David for Wales.

Gail Healey, who runs the pre-school with Carol Mullan, said it was nice for the children to celebrate each other’s culture.

“We have children from so many different backgrounds and cultures that it is nice to be able to celebrate them all,” she said.

Eighteen youngsters, aged from two to four years old, turned up for the day’s activities dressed in green.

They spent the morning making biscuits shaped as shamrocks and decorating them with green icing. They then watched a demonstration of Irish dancing on the television and then had a go themselves, jigging along to Irish music.
