FIVE brownies were enrolled at one of the first meetings at a new guide hut.

The new girl guiding headquarters in Conduit Road, Stamford, opened at the beginning of the year.

It was closed in 2004 for health and safety reasons and has been knocked down and rebuilt. During that time, all the groups which use the building have been forced to use community halls.

At one of the first meetings there of the 6th Stamford Brownies, five of the girls were enrolled as brownies. There was also a raffle and tombola and games to raise money for new curtains.

Brownie leader Doreen Manton also invited four of the guiders, who had helped her over the years, back to celebrate the opening.

Mrs Manton said: “It was lovely to see the guiders again, who have helped me over the years and to have them here to celebrate.

“It was a really lovely night and all the children had fun, particularly those who were being enrolled.”
