A cafe hopes to take on the national chains and increase its customer base when it moves to a prime high street location.
Beans Coffee Stop is set to open in the former Fenn Wright Manson shop in High Street, Stamford, in the week beginning March 4.
The cafe has been serving Stamford customers in Silver Lane since November 2004 and was the second opened by Phil and Karen Gilbert.
But the owners have been looking for a more prominent location for some time and when the High Street premises became available the decision was easy.
Mr Gilbert said: “The Friday market is not as busy as it used to be so we don’t get as busy.
“And we are constantly having to clear up mess from people who go to Central nightclub. They treat the courtyard as a smoking area and it’s disgusting what’s left there.
“But the main reason is that we can’t compete down that little lane. People who don’t know the town never walk down there.
“We are looking forward to going head-to-head with the national chains.”
Planning permission to change the use of the High Street building has already been granted by South Kesteven District Council.
Work to convert the ground floor is well underway and a planning application for outdoor seating has also been submitted.
Mr Gilbert added: “There will be slight changes to what we offer but it will be primarily Beans as everyone knows us.”
While the Stamford shop will open soon, the Beans shop in Church Street, Oakham, could be closed for some time.
It has been shut since June 30 last year when a fire ripped through the roof of the terraced, also causing damage to Italian restaurant L’Oliveto and letting agents Reid Associates.
Mr Gilbert said: “We have started work on the shop but it is going to be months before it reopens because there is such wrangling going on between insurance companies.
“It is a listed building too so the council wants to make sure everything is being done properly.
“It won’t be open until the summer.”
