A retail emporium offering space for small businesses to set up short-term shops is due to open in Stamford at Easter.

The team behind the Love Stamford loyalty card will lease the former Sukies Party Emporium premises within Stamford Corn Exchange to launch the new venture.

The open plan emporium will offer a range of retail units, including small shops and carts, with options to rent a space for as little as one day.

Entrepreneur Alex Curtis, who is behind the plans, has already been approached by 30 businesses which are interested in the scheme. Their products range from jewellery and vintage furniture to cupcakes and art.

Alex said: “The plan is all about supporting independent retailers. It’s very expensive to open a business in Stamford. There are lots of small businesses out there with amazing products to offer but there isn’t an affordable way for them to showcase their work.

“There will be a variety of retail spaces available to let and the rental prices will include business rates, utilities and marketing support via the Love Stamford website, making it a very attractive and hassle-free opportunity for independent businesses.”

The emporium will also feature a children’s soft play area and coffee bar with regular family events to help attract customers.

Alex said: “Aside from families we hope to attract a wide variety of customers from locals to tourists with something new to see and buy every visit.”

Refurbishment work is expected to start in March ready for the official opening at Easter.

Alex said: “I have a great belief that in the future Stamford will go back to having the traditional high street we used to see with independent retailers reclaiming the town centre.”

Trustees of the Stamford Corn Exchange announced in November they were looking for new tenants when Sukies staff announced they were moving to North Street.
