A public relations consultant has combined her love of animals and passion for portraits to create sketches of pets.

Claire Barks loved drawing as a child but did not pursue the interest after leaving school.

Eight years ago her love of art was re-ingnited when she collected a blue and white Persian kitten from a rescue centre, a year after her 13-year-old white Persian cat Cleo died.

“Gizzy was a fluffy bundle of energy and naughtiness from the first evening and as the bond between us developed, it re-ignited my urge to draw,” said Claire.

Gizzy’s portrait was the first Claire had created in almost 25 years. Others followed as friends spotted her talent and requested portraits of their own pets.

Claire, 47, who is a freelance public relations consultant, was born in Peterborough but now lives in Main Street, Cottesmore where she moved last year.
