The speed limit on a main route into Stamford could soon be reduced.

Lincolnshire County Council wants to extend the 30mph zone in Ryhall Road. The zone currently changes to the national speed limit to the north of Rutland Road. But the council is considering extending the 30mph limit until Lincolnshire’s border with Rutland, where the limit changes to 50mph.

The changes were proposed to cope with the extra traffic created by Stamford AFC’s new stadium, which is currently under construction. Police, transport companies and other bodies were consulted.

A new right turn bay will be created in the road and the council wants to decrease the speed limit to reduce potential danger to drivers and pedestrians.

The county council’s planning and regulation committee considered the proposal on Monday and opted to approve it. A public notice will now be published, inviting comments on the plans.
