A village post office could open for an extra 22 hours per week should a proposed move go ahead.
The Post Office has launched a public consultation into plans to move its Wittering branch from its current home in Townsend Road to the Spar shop in St George’s Road.
Should the move go ahead, the branch would open 7.30am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday - an increase of 22 hours.
Post Office regional network manager for England south Will Russell said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Wittering and we are confident that this new modern post office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the post office, and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
A post office in the Spar store would have an open-plan layout.
The proposals come under the £1.34bn the Government has committed to help Post Office keep branches open across the country.
The consultation will close on July 11. You can have your say by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 08457 22 33 44.
