A pub’s new £10,000 music venue was opened by some of the region’s top bands.

Leicestershire’s Young Knives put on a special gig at The Railway Inn, Oakham, on Tuesday. They were supported by Peterborough band Opaque.

The pub won £10,000 to spend on upgrading its performance space in the national Music Makeover competition, run by copyright campaign group PRS for Music.

Owner Shaun Jackson hopes to turn his pub into the number one music venue in Rutland.

He said: “The launch event went very well. We had two cracking bands on and a lot of music dignitaries there on Tuesday.

“We are going to do as much as we can for live music in the region.”
