A couple are leaving behind their successful corporate careers in a bid to realise their dreams in running a country pub.

Steve and Claire Glencross have taken a leap of faith and purchased the White Horse in Main Street, Empingham.

The couple are going back to their roots having grown up in the village and have given up their jobs as a sales director in London and a group marketing manager.

Claire said: “We knew the White Horse was on the market and we just didn’t know whether to buy it or not. But then we thought it’s in a prime location, we know the village and that if we worked hard we could make a success of it.

“It’s a real leap of faith but we so desperately wanted to do it. It was petrifying leaving what we had behind but we’re so pleased we’ve done it.”

The pub closed on February 1 while Steve, Claire and a team of local workers gave it a seven-day makeover, which included transforming the bar area, fitting new toilets and installing new furniture.

It opened its doors to the public again on February 8.

Claire added: “People think we have done this before and they’re quite surprised when we say it’s completely new to us.

“We’ve been made to feel so welcome by our customers and we are absolutely loving it.”
