A farm and butcher is celebrating National Sausage Week early after winning a staggering six awards for its brilliant bangers.
Grasmere Farm, based in Deeping St James, wants customers to enjoy a sausage or two during the national celebration, which runs from Monday to Sunday next week.
And staff at the farm know a thing or two about the British favourite, having just won six gold awards for their sausages at the biannual Lincolnshire Poacher competition.
Proprietor Stuart Gables said: “Everybody loves sausages of one sort or another, so much so that this last year saw sausages outselling chicken and minced beef.
And the nation has eaten a staggering 195,818 tonnes of sausages in the year.
“Whilst sausages used to be a cheap meal solution over the last two decades there has been the advent of the gourmet speciality sausage which now means that there is a sausage for every occasion with good old bangers and mash even making it onto the menu for weddings and the like.”
Staff at the farm and at the two Grasmere butchers shops in Stamford and Market Deeping were delighted when the Lincolnshire Poacher awards winners were revealed.
Mr Gables added: “To have won so many gold awards and to also have the Champion Speciality Sausage speaks volumes for the quality of our whole range of sausages”
“It is great for the team to get such recognition for all their dedication and hard work and we will be sharing this success with our customers during sausage week.”
