Jerry’s ‘labour of love’ marks Luffenham Heath Golf Club’s centenary

A GOLF club’s history has been charted in a new book to mark its centenary year.

Jerry Simmonds, of Main Street, Morcott, spent two years compiling One Hundred Years on the Heath – A History of Luffenham Heath Golf Club 1911-2011.

Mr Simmonds is a keen golfer himself and has played at the club for 53 years, so the book was a labour of love.

He said: “It was a rewarding experience. To compile the book I used research papers from a friend, Peter Baker, and also spoke with long-serving staff and members of the club.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the process. There were a lot of things I had always wondered about the club so it was fascinating to go and find the answers.

“Luffenham Heath started as a very aristocratic club with dukes and lords, but it is much more modern now.”

This is the first book Mr Simmonds, 67, has written but he hasn’t ruled out another writing project in the future.

Copies of the book are available at £20 including postage from Richard Seddon on 01536 515716, repseddon@hotmail.co.uk or at Seddon Boxes, Unit 1 Bromley House, Pytchley Lodge Road, Kettering, NN15 6JQ.

Cheques should be made payable to “One Hundred Years On The Heath”.

Proceeds from the book will be divided between the Royal British Legion and Cransley Hospice in Kettering.
