Deepings MP John Hayes backed the newly launched Current Account Switch Service, which lets people move account from one bank or building society to another, free of charge and hassle.

The MP said: “This will bring huge benefits to people and local firms as it will cut the time it takes to switch accounts from up to 30 days to just 7. I also welcome the Guarantee scheme which protects those who switch should anything go wrong.”

Mr Hayes also pledged to make life better for people living with dementia.

He joined 200 MPs and representatives from Alzheimer’s Society, in Portcullis House, Westminster, where the charity was drumming up support for its Dementia Friends initiative which aims to educate people about dementia.

Earlier this month Mr Hayes met Philip Robinson, one of 100 scouts from across the UK at a special fringe “Scouts Speak Up” event at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester.
