Workmen put up scaffolding to inspect the damage and have cleared away any loose rubble. The bank will be open as usual at 9am tomorrow.

NatWest spokesman Nigel Meffen said: “In situations like this our primary concern is for the safety of our customers and staff. We closed the branch as a precautionary measure.”

The bank’s outside cash machines are still available to customers.
