A BOOKSHOP which was saved from closure earlier this year will shut in January - unless new premises can be found.
Buy the Book in High Street, Oakham, was threatened with closure in March because the former owner was selling it.
A new buyer was found and the shop was saved but its lease is ending and the owner has not been able to secure a new one. It will close on January 15 if alternative premises cannot be found.
Manager Adam Faulconbridge says the business owner is already looking for new premises in the town.
He added: “The outpouring of support shown by Rutlanders and visitors alike, as well as from the loyal customers of Buy the Book and fellow retail outlets in the town, was amazing and the six staff at the small independent bookshop are all genuinely touched by the wonderful comments and support they received during a time of great worry.”
The shop opened in Oakham 14 years ago and is a favourite shopfront in the High Street.
Adam said: “I would like to thank everyone on behalf of the staff for their loyal custom and many happy memories they have created during the past 14 years.
“We would just like to let them know that time is running out and they will not have long after Christmas to get their returns in to us.”
The landlord and business owner have both said that they would not like to comment at this time, but that the contract was ending amicably.
