Service reinstated after lights delayed
Godsey Lane, Market Deeping.
A bus service will stop outside a supermarket again after plans to install traffic lights were put on hold.
Delaine Buses applied to the Government-appointed Traffic Commissioners body for special dispensation to reinstate the Godsey Lane, Market Deeping section of its 102 service.
The company stopped the service at the start of the year because of plans to install seven sets of traffic lights at the roundabout to Tesco and the entrance to Persimmon Homes’ new Hardwick Gardens estate.
But on Thursday last week Lincolnshire County Council announced it would defer work on the junctions so further talks could be held with local councils and the bus company.
Delaine will reinstate the Godsey Lane section of its 102 service on Monday.
Delaine Buses managing director Anthony Delaine-Smith said: “We are well aware it is not over yet and we urge people to get involved with the campaign to stop the lights being installed.
“I would like to thank Deeping St James Parish Council and Market Deeping Town Council for their efforts fighting the lights.
“Without them nothing would have been done.”
The work to install the lights was due to begin on February 4, lasting 23 weeks. It has now been postponed until early April.
The plans were put on hold following a campaign by Deeping St James Parish Council chairman Phil Dilks and vice-chairman Andy Pelling.
The councillors launched an online petition against the plans. So far more than 1,200 people have signed it.
Coun Dilks wrote to numerous county councillors appealing for plans to be reconsidered.
He said: “I’m delighted both local councils in the Deepings are speaking with one voice to protest against this unwanted costly scheme.
“Even though this is in Market Deeping it is an issue that affects the whole of the Deepings because everyone uses the services along Godsey Lane like Tesco and the medical centre.”
“We need to intensify the campaign because all we have achieved so far is a reprieve.”
Persimmon Homes East Midlands managing director Adrian Evans said the company would be happy to change the designs for the junction works if the county council requested.
