A BAND is hoping strong support will help them through to the final of an international competition.

BlackHawkDown, based in Stamford, will play alongside 19 other bands in the regional final of the Surface Unsigned Festival at the 02 Academy in Birmingham on Sunday, August 28.

The heavy rock quintet, who list Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and Alice in Chains among their influences, could be one of five chosen to go on to play at the Indig02 in London.

The band made it through three previous stages and hope to take plenty of fans with them by coach to what will be their biggest ever concert.

BlackHawkDown com-prises Stamford residents Norbert Jarzynka (bass), Marc Daffern (drums) and Lee Daffern (rhythm and lead guitar), Ben Yardley (lead vocals) from Essendine and Andy McGurk (lead guitar) from Market Deeping.

Ben said: “After the fantastic support we received from our fans, friends and family in the last round we wanted to again make it as easy as possible for people to come along and support us by putting on transport as cheaply as possible.

“The event is an amazing opportunity for BlackHawkDown to promote our music and reach a wider fanbase as well as pushing us to compete with bands from Spain and Germany for that big prize at the O2 in London.”

To help the band reach the final you can text Midlands 3131 to 64343. Texts cost £1 plus the standard network charge.

Gig tickets and coach cost £20 together. To book a place e-mail band@blackhawkdown.org.uk or call Lee Daffern on 07989 961948. BlackHawkDown’s music can be found on www.reverbnation.com/blackhawkdownuk
