Twenty jobs could be created by Lands’ End changes

About 20 jobs could be created as part of a mail order clothing company’s plans to centralise its operations under one roof.

Lands’ End, which is based in Lands’ End Way in Oakham, is bringing its merchandising and planning operations together in Oakham over the next six months.

There is already a merchandising team in Oakham made up of 12 people but as part of the plans 11 more people will be recruited, including a head of merchandising.

A new planning team with nine planners will also be created, headed up by a new head of planning.

In total, there will be 33 in the team, which will be responsible for selecting products from the US range which are best suited to the European markets and working closely with the US design teams to make sure the ranges reflect trends in Europe.

The whole merchandising and planning team will be led by Sara Prowse, the European product director, who will report directly to the UK managing director.

Some of the roles could be filled internally as there are people under consultation at the company’s bases in America, and Germany.

The remaining roles are being advertised in trade magazines.

A company spokesman said centralising the functions at the Oakham office, which is the company’s UK headquarters, would “improve communication, leverage local market knowledge and create greater efficiencies.”
