A post office will close for two weeks for a complete refurbishment as part of a national improvement programme.
The branch in Market Place, Uppingham, will shut at 5.30pm today (Wednesday) and will remain closed until 1pm on March 13.
Workmen will move in to create an open-plan office which, once reopened, will offer longer opening hours to customers.
Post Office area manager Lesley Frankland said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to the people of Uppingham and we are confident that this new modern post office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The refurbished Uppingham branch will have three serving positions.
One will be a traditional screened position and the other two will be open plan. The current range of post office services will continue to be offered.
Opening hours at the modernised branch will be 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, giving customers an extra five hours’ service on Saturday afternoons.
Nearby branches will be ready to serve Uppingham customers during the closure.
Post Office services in Oakham moved from the old branch in Market Place to Martin’s newsagents in High Street last month.
The five dedicated counters are open from 8.30am to 5.30pm Mondays to Saturdays.
