TWO cyclists hope to raise £1,000 by completing a coast to coast ride.

Carl Heron and Tom Partridge rode 130 miles between Whitehaven and Sunderland this week.

The daring duo have raised £800 for the Langtoft and Deepings branch of legion but hope to increase this to £1,000.

The pair set off from Whitehaven, in Cumbria, from 10.30am on Monday and reached Sunderland on Wednesday afternoon.

Keen cyclist Mr Heron, 37, of Cloven Ends, Langtoft, and Mr Partridge, 21, of Kesteven Close, Market Deeping, decided to undertake the gruelling challenge in January and have been busy training ever since.

They cycled 50 miles on Monday, 45 on Tuesday and a further 40 on Wednesday.

A highlight of the trip was cycling up the Hartside Pass, which is 2,000ft above sea level.

Mr Heron said: “It was hard in places and the weather was not kind to us.

“But we got through it in the end and we did it in three days.

“I’m pleased with our performance.”
