A HUGE scrapyard fire which has been burning for four days was caused by friction on a conveyor belt, it has been revealed.

About 800 tonnes of scrap metal and plastic at the BW Riddle scrapyard in South Fen Road, Bourne, caught fire at about 1pm on Friday.

The fire is still going and fire crews have confirmed the blaze was sparked by friction from an unknown item on a conveyor belt.

One fire engine remains on the scene.
