VISITORS attended a coffee morning which raised funds for a church restoration project.

More than £280 was raised at the event on Saturday, which will go towards proposed changes at St Nicholas Church in Stretton.

People enjoyed a quilt making demonstration from village resident Shelagh Sleeman and were told about the new plans for the church.

Members of the church hope to turn the venue into a village meeting point, where events and clubs can be held with modern facilities, while retaining its integrity as a place of worship.

Event organiser Judy Tullett said: “We raised quite a lot for just a two hour coffee morning. People enjoyed the quilt making demonstration and liked seeing the plans. We want to create a village hall where people can get together and enjoy each others company.”

The event also raised funds for the Royal British Legion.
