Bourne’s first international food festival and street carnival has been hailed a “success”.

“The weather was a bit dull, but that didn’t stop people coming out to enjoy the food and fun atmosphere,” said Gordon Cochran, who was among the organisers.

“We were trying to bring some fun and life into Bourne and get people into the town centre, which we achieved.

“There were smiling faces around all day.”

Mr Cochran, of Gordon Photographic, said the music organised by Bourne Academy teacher Aaron Beeken was “outstanding”, as was food from countries such as Spain, Germany, Thailand and China.

Mr Cochran said: “We had scouts, guides and brownies taking part, fancy dress and morris dancers. It was really well supported by community groups and residents.”

The carnival on Sunday was opened by Bourne Mayor Bob Russell.

Claire Saberton said the organisers were very grateful to the sponsors, and to all who supported it, “particularly Bourne Academy”.
