Builders could start work on 288 new homes by the end of the year after plans for the latest phase of a development were approved.
South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee gave plans for the latest phase of the Elsea Park development in Bourne the thumbs up at a meeting on Tuesday.
Taylor Wimpey East Midlands was granted permission to build a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes on land next to the A151 Raymond Mays Way.
The plans also include two retail/office units with 14 one-bedroom flats above them.
It is expected Taylor Wimpey will take up to five years to complete building all the homes.
Council planning officers had recommended the application be granted approval by councillors.
In a report to them, officers said the proposed home-building reflected the scale and character of the surrounding development.
They said the homes would not result in any significant adverse impacts to the amenities of neighbouring residents and complied with planning policies.
According to the application a bus service will be provided for residents of the new homes.
The document said: “The Elsea Park community bus will operate a subsidised low cost service within the development providing links between on-site facilities, local schools and the town centre.
“Links and timed connections to the existing local 101 and 102 bus service operated by Delaine Buses will be provided.”
The developer also plans to build a cycle route between the new homes and the town centre.
According to the plans this would also provide a good footpath link.
Vehicle access to the homes will come from existing roundabouts in Raymond Mays Way.
In the application the developer said: “Overall this development proposal represents a positive contribution to the established Elsea Park.”
The overall Elsea Park development will provide about 2,000 new homes in Bourne.
The Taylor Wimpey proposals also include a neighbourhood shopping facility, public house, school, parks and community centre on about 300 acres of former agricultural land.
