An audience of more than 200 filled a theatre in Oakham for a charity concert which raised £2,000 for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

The event was organised by the Oakham branch of the Royal British Legion and crowds packed into Oakham School’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Thursday to hear the RAF College Swing Wing Big Band perform.

President of the branch, Air Vice-Marshal Nigel Sudborough, thanked everyone for their generosity and urged people to continue to support the appeal.

The branch also took the opportunity to mark the dedicated service which Lt Cdr Alan Moutrey had given over many years. Alan had fought illness over a long period with great courage and passed away earlier this year.

A certificate of legion service was presented to his widow, Anne Moutrey.
