STAFF from a construction company have improved an area at a special school.

Wates Construction has been working at Stocken Prison to build some new housing blocks. The company regularly holds community days, where its staff help out with a project in the area where they are working.

They chose to do some work at The Shires in Stretton and spent Friday last week clearing an area ready to be converted into a playarea, as well as erecting a new fence.

Prison staff who heard about the project also got involved.

Document contractor at Wates Construction Jane Daisley said: “We all had a wonderful day there and it will be of so much benefit to the young people who attend The Shires.”

Premises manager at The Shires Chris Redman said: “We are grateful to all concerned for their work, particularly Jane who organised the day. It will make a huge difference to the students.”
