MEMBERS of Cottesmore WI swapped baking cakes for picking up litter in a bid to spruce up the village.

President of the group Val Kelly had the idea to do a litter pick to clean the approaches to the village in the run up to the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

Nine members of the group spent three hours picking up litter during a sunny Saturday.

Secretary of the group Margaret Hyde said: “We enjoyed it. It was a nice morning and it made a change for us.”

She said the group picked up about eight bags of litter, as well as the face of a Henry vacuum cleaner.

Mrs Hyde also thanked Rutland County Council for the loan of litter picking equipment.
