Highway workers from Lincolnshire County Council removed the badly-painted double yellow lines in Stamford on Monday.
The work came in response to complaints about the road markings in St Mary’s Place, which were branded “shoddy” by residents.
Highways workers painted the double yellow lines two weeks ago.
The county council said the lines were being refreshed to make the parking restrictions clear to motorists before wardens, working on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council, start issuing tickets on Monday.
But the paint ran among the cobbles.
Area highways manager Kevin Brumfield said last week: “What we’re planning to do is remove the existing lines entirely and use a different type of adhesive material.”
Mr Brumfield said the new lines would be painted before Christmas.
