A town council voted against allowing the Mercury to Tweet updates from its meetings.
Stamford Town Council was asked if Mercury reporter John Evely could Tweet during a full council meeting on Tuesday.
John said many councils allow journalists to Tweet from meetings.
Councillors raised concerns about the accuracy of reporting if a journalist covering the meeting was multi-tasking and were also worried that comments could appear out of context.
Coun Gwyneth Gibbs (Con) spoke in favour of the Mercury tweeting and said South Kesteven District Council allows it at planning meetings.
A vote was taken with nine councillors in favour and eight against.
