A bride who walked down the aisle 50 years ago today, will re-live that special moment 50 years on, when she meets her husband at the altar to renew their wedding vows.

Eileen and Graham Morgan, from Ryhall, wanted to do something special to mark their golden wedding anniversary, and what better way than to do it all over again?

The couple who met in Coventry in their early 20s, spent two years courting before they decided to make it official at Coventry’s St Paul’s Church in 1965.

Eileen, 72, said: “On our first date I was supposed to meet Graham at 8pm on the Friday, but I made him wait. After leaving him hanging for a good half-an-hour, I made my appearance and we travelled off to Banbury.”

The pair, who are both now retired, used to work together making telephones, but now spend their days out in the garden together enjoying each other’s company.

Eileen said that the secret to their long and happy marriage is all about love and care. “He’s always been there for me,” she said.

Both Eileen and Graham, 74, are excited for their second big day which will take place tomorrow at St John’s Church in Ryhall. More than 20 of their friends and family will attend the renewal of their vows, along with their daughter, Tina, who will have the special role of being her mum’s matron of honour.

Eileen said: “I think it will be very emotional when we renew our vows. But what a lovely way to mark such an occasion. I can’t believe we’ve been married 50 years!”
