A body that has been on the French island of Porquerolles could be that of missing schoolboy Pierre Barnes.

Pierre, 12, from Grantham, went missing on the island in the south of France on Saturday during a storm. He had arrived on the island that day with his family.

It has been reported that his father Stephen Barnes, 57, has told journalists that he was soon to identify the body after receiving a call from police to say they had found a body near to where Pierre went missing.

Pierre was a pupil at Ketton Primary School for more than two years when his family lived in Tixover. He left when he was in Year 2.

Earlier this week, headteacher Mandy Rogers described him as a “charming little boy who always had a happy smile for everyone”.
