Police have released CCTV images of a man they believe used stolen number plates to try to get away with stealing fuel.

The man pictured above is thought to have taken number plates from a vehicle in All Saints Mews, Stamford, on December 17 before attaching them to a blue Peugeot 206.

He then filled up his car at the BP petrol station in Scotgate, Stamford, and drove off without paying at about 8.30pm that same day.

PC Steve Robinson said: “The man pictured has a distinct hairstyle in the pictures – apparently shaved on each side – and going down to a point at the back – like a mohawk.

“We think the male is Asian, approximately 25 years of age, of slim build and between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall.”

If you recognise the man, call police on 01780 752222.
