THREE chickens were killed during a vandalism attack on allotments in Oakham.

The plots in Kilburn Road in Oakham have been hit by several attacks of vandalism over the last year and the latest happened on Sunday night.

It was discovered at 6.30am on Monday. Sheds had been broken into, and plants and vegetables were pulled up. Three chickens were also killed but it is not known how.

Allotment holder Allen Wiggins, of Barmstedt Drive, Oakham, said it was disappointing.

He said: “I can’t believe that chickens have been killed, that is the worst thing this time.

“It is really disappointing for this to have happened again and it doesn’t make sense.

“It is just mindless and we would like to know why it is happening.”

Mr Wiggins believes the cost or repairs could run into thousands of pounds because he said some sheds may need to be replaced at a cost of £400 each.

The incident has been reported to police.
