Complaints against the police by a former councillor have been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Five allegations made by Martin Brookes, who sat on Oakham Town Council for five months in 2010, have been passed to the commission by Leicestershire Police as a matter of routine.

The independent body will assess the complaints made by Mr Brookes and decided whether or not further investigation is needed.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said the force was not in a position to be able to comment on the complaints at this time.

Mr Brookes represented the north west ward of Oakham.
