DOG walkers are being urged to sign up to a new crime-fighting scheme.
Residents in Collyweston, Oundle and Easton-on-the-Hill are being encouraged to sign up to the Northamptonshire Dog Watch Scheme.
Neighbourhood watch manager Terry Savill is asking walkers to become their “eyes and ears”.
He said: “We are trying to encourage them to keep the countryside clean and tidy by reporting things.
“We are trying to encourage them to report if they see anything out of place.
“Dog walkers have found dead bodies, scenes of crime and also things like graffiti.”
Walkers are asked to be alert to anything from incidents of graffiti to overhanging branches.
So far 250 walkers in East Northamptonshire have joined the scheme.
Dogwatch is being run by the Northamptonshire Neighbourhood Watch after being inspired by the success of a similar scheme in Stevenage.
The scheme was launched in Wellingborough in June but organisers decided to launch it across the county last week.
To sign up to the scheme contact the team on 03000 111 222 ext 5724 or go to www.northamptonshiredogwatch.co.uk
