Four pubs in both Oakham and Uppingham sell alcohol to 15-year-old girl

FOUR pubs were caught selling alcohol to a 15-year-old girl last week.

Police ran a first test purchase operation at four pubs in Oakham and two in Uppingham.

Two of the Oakham pubs and both Uppingham pubs failed the test.

Sgt Matt Ditcher from Oakham police station said: “The law is very clear – there must be no sale of alcohol to anyone under the age of 18.

“Each offence will be dealt with by local officers.

“The sale of alcohol contributes to anti-social behaviour and can be a risk to the health of young teenagers as well as making them vulnerable to crime if they are drunk.

Nine off-licences in the county were tested by licensing staff at Rutland County Council on February 5 and all refused to serve the teenagers.

Five pubs and one off-licence in Oakham failed the first test in December.

Police are refusing to name the failed premises but have said those that fail a test purchasing operation a second time will automatically have their licence reviewed and will be named.
