Lincolnshire Police Authority signs £200m contract with G4S to outsource services
A SECURITY company will provide a range of support services to Lincolnshire Police over the next 10 years after a contract was signed.
Lincolnshire Police Authority signed the contract today with G4S, the world’s largest security company, in a deal worth about £200m.
It is the largest contract of its kind ever offered by a UK police authority.
The authority and the force need to meet cuts in Government grants totalling £19.7m in the next four years.
The authority started looking for a potential partner in March last year and from 160 expressions of interest, five bidders were shorlisted. G4S was named as its preferred bidder in December.
Chairman of the authority Barry Young said: “We knew we had set ourselves an ambitious programme, to be completed in a short timescale. From the outset, though, we were encouraged by the interest shown by companies with an international reputation.
“We are delighted that G4S will be joining us as a strategic partner. G4S shares our values and our ambition to maintain and improve services. It has the skills and the experience to help make a real difference to the way in which Lincolnshire is policed.
“By taking over a range of support functions, G4S will contribute to the force’s aim of being able to put 97 per cent of its warranted officers in frontline roles by April.”
Mr Young said G4S would invest in the force’s infrastructure.
He added: “I believe we are leading the way. We have demonstrated that it is possible to negotiate a complex agreement in a relatively short period of time that will provide benefits well into the future.”
From April, G4S will take over the running of IT, support services, finance, assets and facilities management, HR services, central ticket office and collisions unit, firearms licensing, custody, criminal justice unit, force control room excluding the inspector role, town inquiry offices and the resource management unit.
The contract signed contains an options for an extension to 15 years.
