Man arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer in Oakham

A police officer needed hospital treatment for a facial injury he received while making an arrest in Oakham.

Police were called to West Road, Oakham, at 4.20pm on Wednesday last week following reports of a man causing a disturbance in the street.

When officers arrived, a man ran off. The officers followed and later arrested a man in Long Row.

During the arrest, a police officer was allegedly assaulted and attended hospital for an injury to his face. He was later discharged.

The 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and causing a public disturbance. He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
