Man from Afghanistan arrested by UK Border Agency during raid on takeaway in Bourne

A man has been arrested during a raid on a takeway shop in Bourne after checks showed he was working in the country illegally.

The 24-year-old man from Afghanistan was arrested by the UK Border Agency at Carlos Pizzas in South Street at about 6pm on Tuesday.

He has been released on immigration bail while work to remove him from the country is carried out.

Carlos Pizzas must now demonstrate that appropriate pre-employment checks, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document, were carried out. If not, the business faces a potential fine of up to £10,000.

UK Border Agency officer Rachel Challis said: “We have teams across the country carrying out raids like this on a daily basis. Offenders should know that where we find people who are in the UK illegally we will seek to remove them.

“I urge members of the public with information about suspected illegal working to get in touch.”
