POLICE officers are trying to sell bicycle locks as part of a drive to reduce theft of bikes.

The D-locks are on sale at the front inquiry office at Oakham police station in Station Road for £5.

Police community support officer Chris Ancliffe said the sale was in response to an increased number of bicycle thefts and the cost was being kept down.

He said: “I would urge anyone with a bicycle, who doesn’t have a lock to come and purchase one from the station.”

In the run-up to Christmas, the police are also urging people not to leave gifts and bags on display in their cars.

Officers will be posting leaflets to registered car owners if they see anyone with items on display.
