AN RSPCA inspector is asking parents to ensure their children are not being cruel to animals after a group of young people were seen tormenting a cat with a lighter at about 8.50pm on Wednesday in Kesteven Road, Stamford.
Its owner, who has asked not to be named, said: “I saw a girl grab at him so I shouted out of the window and ran downstairs.
“He’s usually such a friendly cat and when he came in he was hissing and spitting. It obviously upset him.
“I think it’s disgusting behaviour for children.”
RSPCA inspector Justin Stubbs said: “I would like to find out who these people are and make sure it doesn’t go any further before someone’s pet gets burned or even killed.
“I would urge parents to explain to their kids the seriousness of the situation.
“It is a crime and there are ramifications.”
