Police and crime commissioner elections and by-election taking place today

Voters are set to go to the polls today to choose their new police and crime commissioners.

The commissioners, one representing each police force, will replace police authorities and their job will be to ensure the force prioritises what matters most.

There are four Lincolnshire police candidates. In Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, there are three candidates fighting for the seat.

There are also seven candidates in Cambridgeshire and four candidates in Northamptonshire, although the voting paper displays five. A candidate withdrew after the closing date.

A by-election is also taking place today to fill the parliamentary seat of Corby and East Northamptonshire MP Louise Mensch (Con).

The constituency covers Oundle and several villages in the Mercury area including Collyweston, King’s Cliffe, Easton-on-the-Hill, Weldon and Gretton.

Mrs Mensch stepped down citing personal reasons.

There are 14 candidates standing in the by-election.
