A WOMAN’S purse was stolen in High Street, Stamford, on Saturday.
The theft follows a number of similar incidents in the area in recent weeks and police have urged shoppers to be on the lookout for thieves.
A spokesman said: “This is a sporadic recurring issue in Stamford and women are being urged to make sure their hand bags are fastened or zipped and ideally, worn resting on their fronts, where they are visible.
“Very often the actual offenders will be women, working as part of a gang including scouts. They also often use distraction techniques while the purse is being stolen. This could take the form of someone asking for directions or for some kind of help.
“Officers are asking people to report any suspicious activity to them as soon as possible to increase the chances of an arrest.”
Call police on 101 to report a theft.
