Rutland and Leicestershire police chief constable Simon Cole has asked the public to help create an exhibition of the force’s history.

This year marks 180 years since the formation of what is now Leicestershire Police. To mark the occasion the force will publish 180 stories, photos and facts spanning its history.

Mr Cole wants the public to be part of the process and has asked people to share old photos, newspaper clippings and memories.

He said: “In 1836 Leicester Borough Police Force was established and since then policing has consistently changed and evolved.

“The first chief constable Frederick Goodyer, who is buried in Welford Road Cemetery, would have found the world of cyber crime, mobile technology and even the telephone bewildering but one thing that remains the same is our commitment to protecting our communities.”
