Shock at theft of plaque from St Leonard’s Priory in Stamford

A 90-year-old plaque has been stolen from a heritage site.

Thieves took a bronze plaque from the side of St Leonard’s Priory in Priory Road, Stamford, between Monday and Wednesday.

The plaque was installed in 1922 and described the history of the building.

Stamford Civic Society member Gwyneth Gibbs said the plaque would be expensive to replace.

She added: “It is frankly scandalous that someone could take it and sell it on for a few pennies for
scrap.”
