Thief attempts to snatch handbag in Stamford

A WOMAN was left with a black eye after a thief tried to steal her handbag.

Police are appealing for information after the attempted robbery, which happened on Thursday between 9.30pm and 10pm in Bentley Street, Stamford.

The woman was walking along the street on her way home from St Augustine’s Church when the attack happened.

Sector inspector for Stamford, Mike Burnett, said the thief tried to snatch the woman’s bag but she held on and fell to the floor, injuring her eye. The thief ran away empty handed.

Insp Burnett said: “The lady heard a group of youths laughing shortly before she was attacked. I would like them to come forward if they have any information about the attacker.

“The lady has a nasty black eye and we are very keen to get more information about what happened.”
