Three friends who volunteered to have their ponytails chopped off for charity have raised more than £2,000.

Lucy Gandy, Sara Duffy and Debbie Wilson donated their hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides free wigs for children who lose their hair as a result of chemotherapy treatment for cancer.

The money will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and Lucy, 31, of North Luffenham said: “All three of us were really nervous.”

Lucy, Debbie, from Barrowden and Sara, landlady of the Boot and Shoe pub in South Luffenham decided to raise money for Macmillan and donate their hair to the children’s charity because they had all been “affected by cancer in some way”.
