A DEDICATED retained firefighter has retired.

Dave Hamilton, 59, of Finch Close, Uppingham, first joined the retained force in 1987 and has been based at Uppingham fire station in Ayston Road ever since.

As Dave still works full-time repairing lorries for Volvo he decided to take some of his spare time back and retire from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed it over the years and have so many memories.”

As a reminder of his time at the station, Dave was presented with a photograph of the team and a plaque by group manager Richard Hall.

Station manager Sherman Finnemore said: “Dave has always been pretty much the heart and soul of our station.”
